What is Glitterwood?
Glitterwood is, in essence, a range of products in which metals and woods are joined in fine and interesting combinations by the jewellers’ craft.
In the crafting of this product, Darrell and Gillian use the ancient technique known as piercing, which Darrell learned from his father and which he teaches to all trainee craftsmen at Signature. Intricate motifs of brass and copper are cut entirely by hand and these are used to embellish finely sanded wooden items crafted right there in their studios.
In1989, when Darrell Nathaniel first teamed up with fellow jeweller and friend, Gillian Bishop and founded The Signature Collection both these craftsmen had had, between them, over fifty years’ experience in the fine jewellery business. With valuable inputs from Pat Bishop and Vladimir Kacal they experimented with combinations of this pierced brass and teak wood and finally came up with a new product which they named “Glitterwood”
